The Crying Clown - 1

  1. THE CRYING CLOWN 1 - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board.

    This drawing was done for a book to be titled, "The Crying Clown Celebration," according to the manuscript that I received from the author, John F. Carr. It is the 2nd book in a trilogy being written by Carr. The first book in the trilogy, "Carnifex Mardi Gras," had been published by Pequod Press in 1982. This 2nd book was just published in 2013, but the title was changed to, "A Certain Flair for Death".

    However, this drawing with the original title is not in the new book and I don't know why because changing the title at the top of the drawing is a simple matter. You can see how disappointed the clown is not to be included in the new book!

    There is something odd about clowns, they have created a unique "aura," for themselves; behind the funny face make-up, and the hilarious antics, hides a very sad man;

    "And if I laugh at any mortal thing,
    Tis that I may not weep"
    Lord Byron
